Not always a vehicle, but rather a group of People?

Today we associate the word with the traveling communities or something to tour in, ie caravan parks!

But this has not always been the case and a caravan meant a group of people coming together on the road to be safe in numbers?

And this was the way with many different kinds of travelers, merchants and even armies, before the wagon was adopted to carry much more that donkeys, horses or camels!
